Facelift or Rhytidectomy is a surgical procedure to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck.
Facial plasty is a procedure intended to give the patient a younger appearance by treating facial wrinkles and sagging as people age, the traces of gravity, sun marks, and the stress of everyday life can be seen on their faces.
A facelift removes excess skin, tightens underlying tissues and muscles, and redrapes skin on the face and neck. It can correct midface or forehead sagging, Marionette lines, jowls, and a double chin, deeper facial tissues may be repositioned or tightened to restore a youthful contour. Removal or adding of fat or other soft-tissue fillers or some other interventions in conjunction with facelift may be necessary to achieve the best results such as forehead lift, blepharoplasty, or rhinoplasty.
Today, many different techniques exist with outcomes that can be consistently reliable, safe, and durable. Your incisions will depend on the area of the face that is targeted and the level of change you want. Facelift scar can be virtually invisible; narrow, flat, and well placed behind the ear so you can wear your hair close-cropped. However, it can be noticed when looked closely and can be concealed with little makeup.
The procedure does not stop aging but actually reverses the clock, allowing rejuvenation of your face.
The best candidate for a facelift is a patient with elastic skin and strong bones, whose neck skin has begun to sag. Most of the patients are aged 45-60 years.
A facelift makes you younger and fresher and improves your self-confidence. Some patients may require surgery again after 7-15 years, and many patients do not need a second facelift.
Before deciding to have surgery, think about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon. When performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, face lifting poses a shallow risk of complication. Anatomy, physical reactions, and healing rates of humans vary and the results are unpredictable.
The possible complications: Hematoma (blood build-up under the skin that should be removed by the surgeon), injury to the nerves of the facial muscles (temporary), infection, and aesthetic reactions. If you smoke, you will be advised to quit smoking for ensuring successful surgical results. Since aspirin and certain anti-inflammatory drugs increase bleeding, such drugs will be discontinued for a certain period of time before surgery. If your hair is too short, you can allow them to grow longer, to an extent that can cover the incision site during the recovery period.
If the facelift is performed alone, it takes a few hours but if it is performed in conjunction with other surgical procedures, it may take longer. The locations of the incisions and the stages of the operation vary depending on the structure of your face and the technique to be used by your surgeon.
Incisions usually begin above the hairline, following the natural line in front of the ear (or the cartilage in front of the ear), curve behind the earlobe, and run toward the occipital region. A small incision can be made beneath the chin, if another surgery will be made on the neck, as well.
Typically, the surgeon separates the skin from the underlying fat and muscle tissues. The adipose tissue is removed from the neck or aspirated to correct the contour. The surgeon then tightens the underlying muscle tissue, pulls the skin, and releases its excess part. Sutures protect the tissues and close the incisions. Staplers can be used on the scalp for this purpose.
Where needed, drainage tubes may be inserted under the skin behind the ear, with the intent to drain the accumulated blood. A padded, supportive dressing is usually applied to prevent swelling and bruising.
Our goal as an aesthetic clinic is to help you achieve the most beautiful and natural-looking results and to make your surgical experience as easy and comfortable as possible.
Mini Face Lift is a simplified version of the facelift made with much fewer incisions. It is the ideal treatment for patients with intense sagging in the cheek and jaw areas. It is insufficient for the patients complaining of neck and forehead regions. Face Lift and Neck Lift are operations that are applied to prevent and eliminate signs of aging in both face and neck areas with more dense and more comprehensive incisions.
After surgery, you will be hospitalized for 1 or 2 days with painkillers prescribed by your surgeon. In this process, heavy or persistent pain, or sudden swelling of your face should be reported to your surgeon immediately.
Some skin sense is quite normal, It will pass in a few weeks or months. It is recommended to keep your head high if possible for a few days to minimize the swelling.
If a drain is placed during the surgery, it should be removed within one or two days. The head bandage is removed and the wound is dressed the next day. Do not be shocked when you see your pale and swollen face with bruises. Keep in mind that you will regain your normal appearance within a few weeks. A specific portion of the sutures will be removed five days after surgery. Healing of sutured points in the scalp may take a little longer time.
Treat your face and hair delicately because your skin will be tightened and thinner. Your surgeon will give you more specific information about returning to your daily activities.
The information will include the followings: sex and heavy activities such as heavy housework and exercises should be avoided (walking and mild stretching would be good) for a period of at least two weeks.
Alcohol, steam bath, and sauna should be prohibited for several months. All these precautions improve the rest and allow your body to spend all its energy on healing.
The Threads Lifting method is often used as an alternative to the facelift operation. According to your expectations and requests, your doctor will help you identify the most appropriate operation for you. In addition to the thread lift method, it is possible to produce solutions with fill applications that will make you happy more simply but in a shorter duration.
İf you are aware of the fact that the results will not appear immediately, you will be happy with your facelift surgery. You may feel your skin dry and rough for a few months.
Men may find new places to shave, because of the changes in the locations of the skin (behind the ear and neck). You will have new scars but they will be hidden in the scalp or the natural lines. Such scars will gradually fade and diminish in the course of time.
Having facelift surgery cannot stop aging. The tension caused by the surgery is not ever-lasting.
In addition, your facial skin will keep aging, and your genes, skin quality, and maintenance routine are important factors in the longevity of your facelift, but the facelift technique is the number one factor in determining how long the result will last.
Your face may initially look a little bit different. Your features may deteriorate due to the swelling, your facial expressions may look a little tense, and you may probably be doubtful about your scars. Some bruises may last for 2 to 3 weeks, and you may easily get tired. It is not surprising that some patients get disappointed and depressed at the beginning. In the third week, you will look and feel better. Most patients can return to work within 10 to 15 days. If you need, you can camouflage the rest of the bruises with makeup and wear sunglasses.
The surgical scar begins in the scalp, follows the line in front of the ear, and then curves down and extends into the scalp again. Its part remaining in front of the ear is the only part that can be seen after surgery. Therefore, very fine sutures are used for ensuring minimal scar formation.
Most patients can return to work 1 to 2 weeks after surgery. However, patients should wait for 3 to 4 weeks for important social appointments. Bruising and swelling will occur in the face after surgery.
